About Carbon8

Climate action led by communities, explained in plain language.

Carbon8 Malawi is developing early community-first climate concepts — cookstove, forest, and livelihood ideas shaped alongside local partners from the start.

We are in the early stages: listening first, co-designing small pilots, and documenting everything in the open so communities, civic partners, and funders can shape what comes next together. Every project is a concept or in development — shared openly while it takes shape.

This is the landscape we work in: roads and rivers crossing forest and farmland, villages close to the trees they protect. Our role is to make that connection visible — and fundable — on the community's terms.

GeoAI as a support tool

GeoAI supports community decisions — it never replaces them.

We use geospatial AI — satellite imagery plus open mapping methods — as a practical support tool: to listen better, plan pilots more openly, and keep future monitoring honest. Communities lead; GeoAI assists.

Map with communities

Satellite imagery helps sketch where forests, farmland, and settlements are — then local partners correct and complete the picture. Ground truth stays with the community.

Plan pilots openly

Maps and simple analyses are shared back in plain language so everyone can see what an early pilot concept covers — and what it does not claim yet.

Support honest monitoring

As pilots take shape, GeoAI can help track change over time alongside community records — a support for future measurement, not a substitute for local verification.

Our methods are in development and shared openly as they take shape — including limits and uncertainties. Nothing here is presented as finished or verified.
